Monthly Fishery Report

May 2017

May has always been an excellent fishing month and is hasn’t disappointed this time round. We’ve had plenty of doubles caught, lots of Tigers, Browns and Blues and too many Rainbows to count and the average weight is still around the 4lb Mark with many 5-6lb fish caught each week to.

Tony Roll broke the fishery record for the most fish caught by one angler in one day when he caught 15 fish, Colin Farley and his son shared a 9 fish bag with the best a superb 11lb 8oz Rainbow and on the same day Martin Hill bagged a 8lb Rainbow! Jon Howe took an 8 fish bag, Bill Nelson, Pete Willingham and Jim all caught Tiger Trout with Jim catching two on a dry mayfly pattern. Jayden helped his dad Mike smith land a magnificent 7lb Brown, Clive Watton caught five fish, which also included a Tiger Trout and Evan Cooke caught a 7lb Rainbow. Jack Cartwright had a great evening session when he caught a tagged fish, which netted him £100. Season rod Steve Brett had a some super sport taking two Browns and three tigers all on a dry Lunns Particular. Season rod Jim landed a 6lb Rainbow, Mr Evans and Mr Sheppard both caught their first Tiger Trout and Andy Bryant netted himself £100 when he caught a tagged fish. Dave Burgess had an excellent afternoon fishing our chalk stream, catching 14 fish! Tom landed three fish and it was the first time he had cast, played and landed fish all by himself – well done! Charlie is new to fly fishing and tempted a fine Rainbow on Bridge Lake by using a bow and arrow cast under the trees to present his fly to fish he could see and Luke caught his first fish on his first go at fly fishing! Ian Tramaseur and Mark Roll both caught Tiger Trout and Tony Roll tempted a cracking Brown. There were a number of big fish caught with Mr Lawson and Bob Lewis both catching a 9lb Rainbow, Mr Harding and Mr Chapple both catching 10lb Rainbows and Mr Drewitt and Steve Bayliss both catching 11lb Rainbows. We also held a fishing fishing competition and BBQ, which was won by Martin Hill with a fish of 8lb 6oz, it was a great day and over 70 fish were caught so keep an eye out for the next one!

It’s the same old story with regards to the most consistent flies through May - Blue flash damsels, sunk daddys, GRHE’s, PTN’s, buzzers and montanas taking the majority of fish with black knats, mayfly, sedge and daddys all scoring well on the top.

That’s all for this month but keep an eye on our Facebook page for up to date catches and information about the Fishery
